XR & Virtual Production

Recruiting Videos from the XR Studio: Employer Branding That Stands Out

A recruiting video rarely fails because nobody wanted it. It fails on logistics. Production is running, the hall is loud, the clean room is off limits, and the engineer who was meant to be on camera has exactly two hours. What comes out looks like everyone else’s film: a corridor, a desk, a logo on the wall.

Virtual production reverses that order. Instead of pushing a shoot through the company, the company comes to the studio for a day, and the backdrop comes to the LED wall.

Why on-site recruiting shoots get expensive

The cost of an employer branding film is rarely in the camera. It is in everything around it:

  • Downtime: a crew on the shop floor means coordination, an escort and, in the worst case, a pause on the line.
  • Access: restricted areas, clean rooms, customer data on screens, every clearance takes lead time.
  • Travel: three sites for three scenes means two half days on the road and three set-ups.
  • Sound: machine noise ruins the interview that was supposed to be the heart of the film.

The result is a budget that mostly never reaches the screen.

What changes on the LED wall

In the XR studio the environment is already there on set, rendered live and camera-tracked. For recruiting films that means:

  • Several backdrops in one day: factory floor, lab, office loft, an exterior in evening light. Changing takes minutes, not travel days. The arithmetic is in how virtual production cuts shoot day costs.
  • Quiet for the interview: your people speak in an acoustically controlled room instead of shouting over a press. You can hear the difference, and it decides whether a statement sounds credible.
  • No clearance loop for backgrounds: there is no real machine and no real customer monitor in shot. What appears on the wall is what you signed off in advance.
  • Controlled light: the light of the virtual environment falls for real on faces and workwear. Why that beats green screen is covered in in-camera VFX vs green screen.

One shoot day, a full channel package

Recruiting is no longer a single film, it is a set of formats. A studio day is efficient precisely because the backdrop between formats is one click away:

  • a 90 to 120 second careers page film,
  • five to eight vertical 9:16 clips for Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn,
  • employee statements as a series, one face per clip,
  • job ad teasers you can re-script per vacancy,
  • stills from the same session for the careers page and paid ads.

The second advantage shows up later. A virtual set, built once, stays. The film for the next department will look like the first one six months from now, without anyone recreating weather, time of day or wall colour. That is what makes employer branding work as a series rather than a one-off.

Why this matters for international employers in Germany

If you are hiring in Germany from a headquarters somewhere else, two things usually slow a shoot down: the approval chain and the language on set. We run productions in English throughout, from briefing and interview direction to the edit, so the people signing off the film do not have to be in the room to know what was said. More on that in video production in Germany.

Our stage sits in Erlangen, in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, in the middle of Bavaria’s medtech, automation and engineering cluster, and within easy reach of Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. For companies recruiting into that cluster, a studio day is a short drive rather than a trip.

How to prepare the shoot day

Three things decide the outcome, and all three happen before the shoot:

  1. Few, real speakers. Four well-prepared employees beat twelve who drop in briefly. Send the questions in advance, but do not let anyone memorise answers.
  2. Choose backdrops by message, not by effect. A believable factory floor carries an apprenticeship film further than a space station.
  3. Decide the formats up front. A shot intended for 9:16 is framed differently from a 16:9 interview. That costs nothing on the day if it is in the concept.

In short: virtual production does not make recruiting videos more spectacular, it makes them more predictable. One day, several worlds, a quarter’s worth of content.
